Media City Odense supports the Future Media Initiative – for a stronger, more innovative European media environment

July 3, 2025

Media City Odense (MCO) is proud to support the Future Media Initiative (FMI) – an ambitious and strategic effort that brings together media companies, technological frontrunners, decision-makers and public actors from across Europe around one common goal: to secure Europe's leadership in media innovation.

Why FMI?

The media landscape is facing a crucial time of transition. Global platforms and rapid technological change are fundamentally changing how we create, distribute and experience content. This is not only challenging our business models – it is also affecting our ability to ensure editorial independence, pluralism and enlightened democracies.

The Future Media Initiative was created as a concrete and scalable solution to these challenges. The initiative builds on the strong network around Future Media Hubs, and focuses on:

  • Knowledge sharing and networking through Future Media Hubs
  • Strategic impact through annual trend reports and a European vision plan
  • Project execution via, among others, Mediafuse and proposals for public-private partnerships
  • The public-private partnership in particular is a cornerstone of FMI – a model where public funding is connected with private investment to create innovation, sustainable business models and technological solutions with global impact.

That's why we support

At Media City Odense, we believe that collaboration across countries, sectors and technologies is the key to the media ecosystem of the future. By supporting FMI, we commit to:

  • 🤝 Collaboration with European media actors on innovation in content, distribution, personalization and business development
  • 💡 Collaboration in the development of technologies and models that strengthen the competitiveness and robustness of our industry
  • 🎯 Working for policy frameworks and EU support that enable real scalable innovation
  • 🗞️ Promote values such as diversity, transparency and editorial independence in the digital public space

A call to the industry

We are at a crossroads. Either we act – or we hand over the digital media and democracy space to global actors outside Europe's community of values.

That is why we invite all media companies, technology partners and decision-makers to support the Future Media Initiative. Together, let us ensure that Europe is not just a consumer of global media technologies – but also a co-designer of its own digital future.
